Annual Alumni Week: Feb. 3 to 9

The University of Victoria’s sixth annual Alumni Week, from Feb. 3 to 9, features a full set of events—from a special tribute to 50 alumni who contributed to UVic’s growth in its first 50 years to practical workshops on online identity protection and dining etiquette.

“UVic graduates play all kinds of leadership roles in their communities. Alumni Week is a way to acknowledge and celebrate those efforts,” says Terry Cockerline, director of Alumni Relations. “We’re excited to work with the volunteers of the UVic Alumni Association as well as the university’s faculties and departments to present a great mix of events for the whole week.”

On Feb. 7, the Alumni Who Made a Difference event at the Fairmont Empress Hotel and hosted by Chancellor Murray Farmer, BA ’68, will celebrate 50 alumni who have demonstrated citizenship on behalf of the university through their volunteer efforts and support.

On Feb. 4, in a Managing Your Online Identity workshop, Victoria Police Staff Sergeant Darren Laur and UVic psychology student Brandon Laur will discuss taking ownership of personal digital information, maintaining personal safety and avoiding online embarrassment.

And the Feb. 8 Dining Etiquette seminar—complete with four-course meal—will guide students and alumni through the subtleties of table manners, especially where business relationships and networking are concerned.

The complete list of nearly 20 Alumni Week events, along with registration information, is online.

UVic alumni are also eligible to enter online for the grand prize draw for a $2,500-flight voucher courtesy of UNIGLOBE Geo Travel.
