Backgrounder: Vancouver Island: New Home to More Inventors and Investors
The University of Victoria’s Innovation and Development Corporation (IDC) is expanding to provide service to other island institutions. The move is receiving support from Vancouver Island’s high-tech leaders.
Dan Gunn, Executive Director of the Vancouver Island Advanced Technology Centre (VIATeC):
“Having the IDC expand its successful technology transfer service to academic institutions across Vancouver Island is a natural development in Vancouver Island’s collaborative technology community. It fits well with VIATeC’s ongoing mandate to assist in the growth of the island’s technology sector and maintaining its position as the fastest growing technology region in B.C.”

“Through the direct help of UVic’s IDC we have raised capital, launched our services and strategically positioned our firm in the market. Participation from faculty at UVic in adviser roles has also been incredibly valuable. Our firm employs four UVic graduates and five UVic undergrads. We are pleased that the University of Victoria is taking a central role in the technology community, and feel it will add to the success of many new companies.”
