Vikes athletics is advancing the package of initiatives announced earlier this year that further its commitment to providing a supportive high-performance athletic environment aligned with the principles of safe sport. Safe sport principles recognize that all athletes and coaches have the right to participate in a safe and inclusive training environment that is free of abuse, harassment or discrimination.

Conservation field school in Tanzania

December 6, 2019 - The Ring

Last August, as the sun set on the Serengeti National Park, 19 UVic geography students and their instructors arrived in Tanzania to begin a month-long field school on conservation management. Despite the hardships of water rationing and extreme heat, it was a trip of a lifetime for the students, who immersed themselves in the customs and culture of Tanzania while learning about local forest management and ecological conservation practices.

New publication highlights richness of Victoria’s arts community

UVic Libraries recently launched its latest publication, [untitled]: The Artists’ Archives at the University of Victoria Libraries, exploring the archives of four celebrated local artists in Special Collections and University Archives. The publication is presented as a series of four interrelated booklets—each told through the voice of a writer closely associated with them, and packaged in a limited-edition portfolio.

In Memoriam: Howard Petch

November 29, 2018 - The Ring

It is with great sadness that the university community marks the passing of Dr. Howard Petch, former President of the University of Victoria, on November 26 at the age of 93. Petch was the university’s fourth President, and is well-remembered for his 15 years in office guiding the campus through an era of immense change, and prioritizing programs and values that have become the defining characteristics of UVic today.
