As many of you are aware, there is a concerning trend of unsafe drugs in BC. At a press conference on Jan. 24, BC’s Chief Coroner stated that nearly seven people a day died from toxic drugs in 2023 in BC. At UVic, The Student Wellness Centre, Office of Student Life, Residence Services and Campus Security want to share information with you to help prevent, recognize and respond to an overdose or over-intoxication.

Located on Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Esquimalt) territory, the National Centre for Indigenous Laws (NCIL) at UVic is still under construction but its architectural design is already winning awards.

Conditions on campus have improved overnight and, as a result, campus will open on Friday, Jan. 19.

The ice rink at Ian Stewart Complex (ISC) was temporarily closed following a minor ammonia release that occurred on Jan. 13. The university took important steps to ensure the rink can safely re-open.

As construction begins this month on the future Engineering and Computer Science Expansion (ECSE) and High Bay Research and Structures Lab (HBRSL) buildings, several trees will be removed from the site on Jan. 16 and 17.
