New gift aims to amplify Indigenous voices

UVic law alumnus Drew Mildon and his wife Dr. Athena Madan share a commitment to “creating, making and holding space for Indigenous voices.” Mildon's law firm, Woodward & Co., provides a scholarship for undergraduate students entering or continuing in the JD/JID program or to Indigenous students enrolling in the JD program. The firm also contributes annual funding for the Indigenous Perspectives camp, which gives UVic law students the opportunity to engage with Indigenous cultures, communities, history, and perspectives on law and legal orders.

Giving Tuesday: the sprinkles are back

After the consumerism of Black Friday, Giving Tuesday has become globally recognized as a day to focus on giving back. UVic’s Giving Tuesday initiative brings together community members, alumni, faculty, staff and students to donate to their chosen causes, raising money for a variety of programs and projects across the university. From Saanich to Spain—and back again

One semester studying abroad in Spain gave UVic graduate Elijah Ackerly a new perspective on life back home in Saanich that would change his path forever. “I fell in love with the language and culture in Spain, but also with the way that learning a new language can influence your perspective on the world,” Ackerly says. “I saw that life can be different from where I grew up.”
