The Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions and the University of Victoria welcome Dr. Ian Mauro to his new role as executive director of PICS and professor of environmental studies at UVic , effective Nov. 1, 2022. Mauro, an acclaimed environmental scientist, filmmaker and multimedia producer who has worked with local communities and Indigenous Nations and Peoples across Canada, brings his passion for storytelling and collaboration to the role.

2022 Leiden Rankings

June 22, 2022 - The Ring

International research rankings released today by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands once again show that UVic researchers consistently publish a greater concentration of high-impact findings based on international collaborations than any other school or institute in North America—a distinction it’s held for 11 of the last 12 years. In mathematics and computer science, UVic is the top university in Canada, and number 50 globally, for its proportion of high-impact research findings. UVic also scores second nationally for research in physical sciences and engineering, closely tailing the University of Toronto.
