Flag lowered for Chris Lalonde

The university flag will be lowered on June 1 in honour of Chris Lalonde, who passed away on May 8. Chris was a professor in the Department of Psychology.

Chris began his research and teaching career at UVic in 1998. He joined the Centre for Youth and Society as a Research Fellow in 2007. Chris’s research focused primarily on the role of culture in reducing suicide risk among Indigenous youth. He was the co-creator of the LE,NOṈET Project and collaborated on the Centre for Youth and Society Stronger Together project.

Chris earned many awards throughout his career, including the 2023 UVic Lifetime Achievement Award.

The university flag will be lowered in his memory on June 1. For all those faculty and staff who knew Chris Lalonde well through his work, a celebration of life was held on June 1 from 2-5 p.m. in the main dining room of the University Club.
