The following University of Victoria expert is available to media for comment about how employers can best support refugee employees to thrive at work, as published by The Conversation Canada today: 4 strategies for hiring refugees successfully.

Stacey Fitzsimmons (Gustavson School of Business) and her co-authors interviewed 127 Syrian refugees, their supervisors, colleagues and HR managers in 28 German companies to understand what workplace integration activities helped refugee employees thrive. Their research found that even well-intentioned employers risk marginalizing refugee employees through overly involved support and by focusing on refugees’ vulnerabilities. Fitzsimmons can discuss best practices for refugee-employee workplace integration. (Office: 250-472-4787 or sfitzsim@uvic.ca)
