UVic among world's best in annual ranking

The University of Victoria is among the top universities in the world as assessed by the highly regarded Times Higher Education’s (THE) annual World University Rankings released today.

UVic placed 173rd in the rankings and is one of eight Canadian universities in the top 200.

“These rankings reflect again the exceptional work being done by the talented faculty at the University of Victoria, that benefits our students, our community and the country,” says UVic President Jamie Cassels. “The attention that rankings bring to many of Canada’s fine universities is welcome, and we’re happy to see the continued international recognition that the University of Victoria is among the best.”

THE rankings are the world’s most comprehensive and carefully calibrated global rankings, using 13 separate performance indicators to examine the university’s strengths in the core areas of teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. They are used by students to help select institutions, by academics to inform career decisions, by research teams to identify new collaborative partners and by university managers to benchmark their performance and set strategic priorities.
