UVic ranked among world’s top universities

The 2014/15 QS World University Rankings, released this morning, provide another confirmation of UVic’s presence among the world’s top higher education institutions.

UVic’s rise from last year’s QS results was particularly significant, jumping more places in the 2014 ranking than any other Canadian university except Laval.

The QS rankings are based on a range of indicators, weighted heavily toward academic and employer reputation. Direct indicators of academic performance, such as citations per faculty member, compose 20 per cent of the score.

The QS rankings put UVic at 290 globally for 2014/15.

Earlier this year, the QS World University Rankings by Subject named UVic among the top 200 institutions worldwide in six key academic fields, with world-class performance in 22 of the 30 subject areas QS considers.

Rankings are regularly used by undergraduate and postgraduate students to select degree courses, by academics to inform career decisions, by research teams to identify new partners, and by university administrators to benchmark their performance and set strategic priorities.
