The following University of Victoria expert is available to media in advance of Father’s Day (June 20) to discuss her new study showing positive changes in fathers’ involvement in childcare and housework during the pandemic, as published in The Conversation Canada  today:

Jessica Ball (Child and Youth Care) is an expert in the role and involvement of fathers in Canada. Her research addresses the social forces that tend to work against men becoming more involved in child care and housework. She can discuss what these social forces are and how they prevent gender equality both in the home and in the workplace, and what women and men want in terms of division of domestic labour. She can also discuss what her research has shown about the tremendous negative toll of the COVID-19 pandemic on mothers in particular, and provide insight on how policies and programs that support father involvement are the crucial missing link to gender equality in the home and beyond. Ball’s current study, It’s About Time: Positive Father Involvement and Gender Equality during COVID 19, is a podcast project (to launch in July) featuring interviews with couples who made positive changes toward gender equality during the COVID-19 pandemic. (Ball is available afternoons at 250-658-3126 or jball@uvic.ca)
