#Gamergate hate-group controversy

Two University of Victoria faculty members are available to discuss the current #gamergate hate-group controversy surrounding the video game critic, blogger, and Feminist Frequency founder Anita Sarkeesian. Sarkeesian cancelled an Oct. 14 speech at Utah State University about the role of women in video games following a #gamergate email threat of a mass shooting.Feminist Frequency is a web series dedicated to exploring the representations of women in pop culture narratives.

David Leach (Writing) is the director of UVic’s Technology & Society program, an expert in gaming culture and journalism and currently oversees a course on the history of video games and interactive media. He can discuss the #gamergate controversy as well as the Anita Sarkeesian videos and resulting backlash. Janni Aragon (Political Science) is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Director Technology Integrated Learning. She regularly teaches courses related to gender, pop culture and has extensively discussed Feminist Frequency in her courses.
