UVic Career Fair Defies Odds With Job Options
Despite a sluggish economy, there are jobs for students who know where to look and on March 10 UVic Co-op and Career Services and the university’s Business Co-op will team up to help students find those employment options. The Co-op and Career Fair and Business Co-op and Career Fair will bring a wide range of employers and community organizations to campus to provide students with information sessions and conduct interviews.
“We recognize that this is a difficult time for job searchers,” says Norah McRae, director of UVic’s Co-operative Education Program and Career Services. “Some institutions have had to cancel career fairs this year, as employers have been pulling back from this type of recruitment event. To combat this, we have invited community organizations to attend for free, in an effort to connect students with a wide range of work experience opportunities, including volunteer work. We are thrilled that we were able to combine two of our fairs to provide a full-day event for our students and alumni.”
Exhibitors include BC Transit, the Calgary Board of Education, CIBC, Meyers Norris Penny LLP, Natural Resources Canada, The Hertz Corporation and VIATeC, as well as community organizations such as the Canadian Cancer Society, Dogwood Initiative, Literacy Victoria and Volunteer Victoria. UVic will run preparation sessions before the fair to help students make the most out of the event.
The fair will run on March 10 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Michele Pujol Room and SUB Upper Lounge (Student Union Building). For a full description and schedule, visit www.uvic.ca/coop/ccfair.
