Fresh images of the same vistas captured 150 years ago by intrepid mountain surveyors are now raising the alarm on impacts of climate change. Researchers with UVic's Mountain
Legacy Project went deep into western Canada’s backcountry over 19 summers, with the results now online.
A significant amount of freshwater in western Canada and the North originates as snowpack from the Rocky Mountains. Terry Prowse, a UVic geographer and a senior federal research
scientist who studies hydrology, water resources and freshwater ecosystems.
Combined with the impacts of climate change and deforestation, the coastal regions of southern BC are very likely to be hit by a worse drought within the coming decades than any
time in the last three to four centuries, according to a new report co-authored by graduating PhD student Bethany Coulthard at the University of Victoria.
