Experts on BC election

The following University of Victoria experts are available to media to discuss issues relating to the Oct. 19 BC election:
Mo Bradley (Writing) is a filmmaker whose career has focused on centering the voices of marginalized identities. As a recovered addict/alcoholic and part of UVic’s Mental Health Research Cluster, they have lived harm reduction for 30 years and incorporate narratives of mental health into their research/creation. One of their current projects is a documentary about the diversion of safe-supply opiates into the local community of non-opiate users. (Contact: bradley@uvic.ca)

Sean Holman (Writing) is an expert in media coverage of climate change and the director of the Climate Disaster Project. As UVic’s Crookes Professor of Environmental & Climate Journalism, Holman is focused on the human issues of the climate crisis. As a former investigative journalist, he can also speak about government use and misuse of information, particularly against the backdrop of catastrophic climate change and biodiversity loss, and how the Climate Disaster Project can help shape policy decisions. Justin Leifso (Political Sciences) is an expert in Canadian politics, public policy and neoliberalism. He explores the relationship between power, policy and politics in Canada. Ry Moran (Libraries) is an expert on truth and reconciliation in Canada and is the inaugural Associate University Librarian, Reconciliation at UVic. As the former director of statement gathering for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) and the founding director of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation, Moran can discuss a range of topics related to BC Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act. Katya Rhodes (Public Administration, Institute for Integrated Energy Systems at UVic) is a climate policy expert investigating the issues of effective and acceptable pathways to reduce climate change.
