2015 Iskowitz Prize to Meigs
The Ring
Seven months after being named one of eight recipients of the Governor General’s Awards for Visual and Media Arts, Department of Visual Arts professor Sandra Meigs has been announced as the winner of the $50,000 Gershon Iskowitz Prize at the AGO for 2015. In addition to the cash award, the prize comes with a solo exhibit at the Art Gallery of Ontario and a further $10,000 towards a publication on Meigs’ work.

Department of Visual Arts professor and nationally renowned painter Sandra Meigs was named one of only eight winners in the annual Governor General’s Awards for Visual and Media Arts on March 24.
2014 BFA exhibit
The Ring
While the MFA show may be the higher profile exhibit on view from the Department of Visual Arts this spring, the BFA exhibit is definitely the larger of the two. Featuring work by 36 graduating BFA students, the annual exhibit—this year titled Split, and running from April 17–26—will feature a tremendous amount of painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, video and media art spread throughout the Visual Arts building.

Busy Visual Arts faculty member Sandra Meigs is not only participating in the current faculty exhibit Paradox at UVic's Legacy Art Galleries Downtown, she also has her own solo exhibition of new large-scale works, The Basement Panoramas, running at Open Space through to December 14.
Bateman on art and environment
The Ring
On Jan. 27, renowned wildlife artist Robert Bateman delivered a public lecture on the relationship between his art practice and his passion for environmentalism at UVic’s Legacy Gallery. His talk was presented in association with the exhibition Honoris Causa, featuring work by recipients of honorary degrees from UVic.
