About Holly Cecil

Holly Cecil's SSHRC-funded Master’s thesis included research at the University of Oxford and in London, examining the critical role of livestock agriculture on climate change and the key role of documentary films in bridging the persistent social awareness gap. This project was awarded the 2019 Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal at the University of Victoria. Employing filmmaking to conduct and share research, her interests span a broad range of critical animal studies addressing exploitation of animals, human-animal relationships, interspecies empathy and cooperation, and social movements promoting plant-based dietary initiatives. Her recently completed 4-year project with Maneesha Deckha is the education-based documentary series, "Animal Law & Youth Activism."
