Julie M. Funk is a PhD candidate in English and CSPT at UVic. She is also a member of the Praxis Studio for Comparative Media Studies. Julie’s research is situated in the intersection of science and technology studies, affect, and biopolitics. She is particularly interested in hormonal codings of human and non-human bodies through medical and technological discourses that position hormones as media. Her research looks extends this analogy of hormones-as-media/mediators and even communicators outside of the medicalized body and aim to position hormones as material agents in political economies (Big Pharma, biometric tracking devices) and ecologies (hormone-disrupting pollutions, hormones that leak and ooze across environments and their histories).
