Dr. Rioux completed a combined MD-PhD degree at the University of Calgary in 1999 and went on to residency training in Internal Medicine (UBC 2002) and Gastroenterology (UAlberta 2005). He was on Faculty at the University of Calgary (2005-16) in the Division of Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Research Group, as leader and collaborator in basic science and clinical research on Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, as well as process and quality improvements for regional access to GI specialty services
He and his family relocated to Victoria BC in 2016 and Dr. Rioux is presently a full-time clinician in Gastroenterology with a subspecialty focus on patients with Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. He is Medical Lead for Gastroenterology Central Access and Triage (GI CAT) and is dedicated to improving patient access to GI consultation and endoscopy services on Vancouver Island through engagement with Primary Care physicians, refinement of the referral and triage process, and data-driven improvements to this single point of entry system.
