Inez St. Dennis Memorial Music Education Service Award
Inez St. Dennis graduated from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Education degree and a Master’s degree in Music Education. She gained valuable experience in her years of teaching both elementary classroom and elementary music. She had a passion for children’s literature and how it could integrate with music education, as well as a knowledge of and respect for the Kodály philosophy of music education.
These passions and experiences were brought to her work in teaching music education classes at UVic, and to her stewardship of the Music Education Resource room. As well as sharing her extensive knowledge and experiences, she was also available to counsel and advise (and even provide cookies for) many cohorts of music education students. This atmosphere of care and compassion earned her the title of “MERR-maid.”
It is to recognize Inez’s blend of knowledge, skills and service that this award is given.
