Douglas Ross Memorial Scholarship

A skilled musician as well as a fine doctor, Douglas Ross is remembered by many friends and family in the Saanich and Victoria areas. Dr. Ross practiced as a physician and surgeon in Sidney for more than 20 years, and founded the Associated Physicians and Surgeons of Sidney. This followed 19 years of  practice in Drumheller, Alberta. He is remembered with gratitude and affection by former patients in both provinces.

Douglas Ross was a man of many parts. As well as being competent and devoted in his chosen profession, he was a skilled musician, particularly on piano, on which he performed works of his own composition in addition to ancient and modern classics. As a student of celestial bodies, he built and enjoyed his own astronomical telescope, and his library reflected his erudition in philosophy, history and popular science. Furthermore, he enjoyed mechanical creativity in both wood and metals, and was working on a sonar panel when he was stricken by a heart attack. Mention must be made of his interest in athletics, not only as a fan, but as an avid tennis player and golfer.

Dr. Ross' children and grandchildren will remember him for his nimble wit and love of fun.
