Pat Koster Scholarship in Women's Writing, Pat Koster Essay Scholarship in Women's Writing

Karl Köster and his daughters, Elizabeth and Theresa, have established these scholarships in honour of their wife and mother, Patricia Köster. Dr. Köster, who taught from 1958 to 1995, was the longest-serving faculty member of the University of Victoria’s English Department. Her principal areas of research and teaching were Restoration, 18th Century and Canadian literatures. She made regular research trips to England and abroad that generated three books and numerous scholarly articles. In her later years she enjoyed finding and reviving under-appreciated works written by women of the Restoration and 18th century periods. Pat Köster was an enthusiastic teacher who brought literature to life in the classroom. Her scholarship, humanity, and conscientiousness earned her an excellent reputation.
