Museum Studies Award in Memory of Dr. Daniel Gallacher

Daniel T. Gallacher had many academic accomplishments including a BA (Honours) from the University of Victoria followed by an MA, and subsequently a PhD at UBC in Canadian, American and British history.

Dr. Dan Gallacher became one of Canada's foremost museum historians and curators. His career spanned over four decades working as a leader in research, acquisitions and publications.

While a student at UVic, Dan was president of the Married Students Club from 1967 to 1968. From 1983 to 1985, he was president of the University of Victoria Alumni Association.

He is also known for his writings and innovations in museum collection practice and exhibits development. Dan received the Canadian Museums Association's Award of Merit, the Award of Distinguished Service and was inducted as a fellow of the Canadian Museums Association in 2011.

Daniel Thomas Gallacher passed away peacefully at Central Okanagan Hospice House (Kelowna, BC) on December 24, 2018 at the age of 79.
