Since graduating in 2001 with a BFA in Theatre and Minor in English, Nathan Medd held some important positions in BC theatre and in the spring of 2013 was named as the Managing Director of the National Arts Centre’s English Theatre in Ottawa.
“I feel extremely honoured to be taking on this role with the National Arts Centre – the Team Canada of the performing arts!,” said Nathan in the official release.
Previous to taking the helm at the NAC, Nathan was the Managing Producer of the nationally recognized Electric Company Theatre in Vancouver where he helped the operation grow to become one of the largest touring theatre companies in Western Canada.  In Vancouver, he also co-founded the Progress Lab 1422, a multi-tenant production centre in East Vancouver, which is now the home to the Electric Company.
After graduating, he put his UVic production and management training into practice, beginning his career as the Front of House Manager at the Belfry Theatre. As a freelance planning consultant, Nathan has assisted arts organizations such as the PuSh International Performing Arts Festival, Touchstone Theatre, and Urban Ink Productions. He has also served as theatre program coordinator with the BC Arts Council, where he analyzed arts policy and managed the Province of BC's funding programs related to theatre and festival production; served on City of Vancouver arts assessment juries, on the Canada Council’s Theatre Assessment Committee, on the board of the Vancouver Theatre Alliance and was an adjudicator of the Canadian National Playwriting Competition.
