MA'12

Not only does David Christopher have an MA in Theatre History from UVic (MA ’12), he also has his MA in Cinema and Cultural Theory and an undergraduate degree in Economics and English from Carleton University in Ontario. A perpetual student, David is currently pursuing a PhD in Cinema and Cultural Theory at UVic. For his Masters thesis in Theatre, he investigated the 1798 staging of James Boaden’s Aurelio and Miranda at Drury Lane. He contrasted the play to the novel it was based on, The Monk by Matthew Gregory Lewis.

His areas of study include Canadian horror cinema, horror and apocalypse cinema, science-fiction and fantasy cinema, theatre and cinema, Shakespeare and cinema, Soviet cinema, cultural theory, neo-Marxism, postmodernism, and repression theory.

He has recent publications in the Canadian cinema journal CineAction, the Online Journal of Arts and Humanities, and in the U.K.’s Theatre Notebook. His recent work on Insidious is soon to appear in Western University’s Word Hoard.

David spearheaded Victoria’s KeepItSimple productions (est. 2011) and was a founding member of the Victoria Shakespeare Society (est. 2003). He has participated as a presenting delegate in various bureaus and conferences including the Film Studies Association of Canada’s 2013 Conference, and is soon to present his recent work on the Evil Dead trilogy at the University of Victoria’s annual Me! dieval Conference.
