Tyler Klein Longmire

Tyler Klein Longmire (BFA'10) is an animator, designer, and theatre maker based in Calgary, AB. He works as the Production Coordinator at the Quickdraw Animation Society, an artist-run centre for independent animators, and is a founding member of the experimental performance collective Humble Wonder (formed with like-minded students during his studies at the Phoenix, receiving initial production support thru the Belfry Theatre's Incubator Program). Tyler also maintains his own studio practice in between freelancing gigs.

Tyler holds a BFA in Theatre, specializing in Directing. He was a Board Member and Producer of the Student Alternative Theatre Company from 2005 - 2010 and acted as President for 2008 - 2009.

In 2014 Tyler was chosen to undertake the SummerWorks Leadership Intensive Program in Toronto; and in 2013 Tyler acted as the Prairie Representative at the Magnetic North Theatre Festival's Compass Points series for emerging artists. In 2013 he also came back to UVic to attend the Digital Humanities Summer Institute conference on scholarship to investigate emerging interactive technologies for live performance.

In 2015, Tyler was working on a short animated film called “Renderrabbits”, an animated portrait of the One Yellow Rabbit performance ensemble, which debuted at the High Performance Rodeo’s 30th Anniversary in 2016. He also animated for and edited the animated short film "Dude, That's Insane: A Tribute to Chris Reimer" to premiere at Calgary's Sled Island Music and Arts Festival in June 2015. In Summer 2015, Tyler with Humble Wonder presented The Bike Play, a mobile performance where audience and performers alike ride thru the bicycle pathways of Calgary to discover the secrets of a bike gang. Humble Wonder also performs on an ongoing basis their signature traveling show Peculiar Puppetronic Phenomena, a very perverted shadow puppet peep show featuring tightly choreographed animations, video, and live performance.

Tyler has recently been lucky enough to have had studio exhibitions / residencies with the Calgary Arts Commons (January – February 2015) and the Calgary Allied Arts Foundation (September 2014). As a theatre artist, as a freelancer or with Humble Wonder, he has worked with organizations such as the High Performance Rodeo, The Old Trout Puppet Workshop, Alberta Theatre Projects, Sled Island, Making Treaty 7, TELUS Spark Science Centre, Belfry Theatre, Theatre SKAM, Theatre Junction, Apparition Theatre, Sage Theatre, and Swallow-a-Bicycle Theatre. He has illustrated for the national magazine The Literary Review of Canada and has animated music videos for many indie Calgary bands.
