Janet Munsil (BFA ’89) studied directing and design at the University of Victoria. She has since gone on to become an internationally acclaimed playwright as well as a vital leader of Victoria’s local theatre community.  Janet’s plays include Influence, that elusive spark (commissioned and first produced by the Phoenix Theatre), Emphysema, and The Ugly Duchess. They have been produced in San Francisco, Prague, Leeds, London, and across Canada. In 2012, her adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice was produced by the National Arts Centre and Theatre Calgary and directed by Denis Garnhum (BFA’90).

Janet has become a prominent figure in Victoria as the Artistic Director and Festival Producer of Intrepid Theatre. She has produced the Victoria Fringe Theatre Festival since 1992. The Fringe, now in its twenty-seventh year, has become Victoria’s most highly regarded and visible celebration of independent theatre. She also produces the Uno Fest, Intrepid Theatre’s annual festival of solo performances.
