The Fraser Building from the perpective of the South Forest
Sustainable design is an integral aspect of the NCIL

The NCIL is being designed with two complimentary ambitions: to advance the goals of the University’s Sustainability Action Plan; and to embody the idea of building in harmony with and with a sense of responsibility for the environment, which is central to the work that will take place in the building.

Key sustainable targets include:

  • LEED Gold v4 certification
  • Optimize energy efficiency
  • Design with a view toward climate resiliency
  • Greenhouse Gas Emissions reductions
  • Prioritize the use of local and low-embodied carbon materials
  • Preservation and Restoration of Natural Ecosystems
  • Integrate on-site Stormwater Management
  • Give specific focus to tree retention
  • Encourage use of Active Transportation
