ABSTRACT

Abstract:

One of the most exciting pieces of news in postsecondary education in Ontario is the opening this September of the first new university in that province in almost 40 years. The University expects to welcome over 850 students, with 20-25% of those in engineering. The speaker will briefly describe the university and its distinguishing characteristics, and its engineering programs. He will describe the University's research foci, the most significant of which is energy. He will also discuss some of the initial activities and achievements in the energy area, and ideas for collaborations with other energy research groups like IESVic. He will also describe future plans and directions in energy and other areas, which include the hiring over the next 4-8 years of anywhere from 30 to 60 faculty, as well as technical support staff. Those interested in learning more are invited to contact the speaker during his visit to UVic from July 25 to August 30.
