ABSTRACT

Abstract

Radio design has been transformed in recent years by cost and size pressures to implement complete transceivers in monolithic form. Part of this process has been the development of new architectures and circuit techniques, and part has come from the semiconductor fabrication technology.

With higher levels of integration, technology choices have changed. One of the subjects of great debate is the choice facing designers between the more conventional BICMOS approach and the growing trend in using CMOS for the RF as well as for the signal processing in the modem.

In this talk we will look at how the technology trends affect RF system design, and at where high frequency performance trends are leading. Examples of RF transceiver circuits will be discussed in more detail, where BICMOS and CMOS technology advantages and problems are explored and exploited.
