ABSTRACT

Because of our aging population, the need for Palliative care will certainly increase in the upcoming years. Palliative care is concerned with providing comfort and support to individuals living with or dying from progressive life threatening illnesses. However, studies have shown that the unrelieved symptom rate in patients may be as high as 70%. This presentation will look at a research project that is creating a common palliative data set which can produce homogenous data which is suitable for data analysis methods such as data-mining. It is our belief that such analysis methods will allow us to better understand the relationships within palliative data and that may ultimately lead to the delivery of better care.
