Title of Talk:
Seismic design of reinforced concrete buildings using nonlinear time history analysis

Short Bio:
Dr. Ehsan Dezhdar is a structural engineer with 10 years of experience in the design of reinforced concrete buildings. His academic background includes a BASc degree from Sharif University of Technology, a MSc in concrete structures from Imperial College London, and a PhD from the University of Britsh Columbia in 2012. His PhD thesis focused on seismic response of shear wall buildings, which resulted in updated
provisions to clause 21 of CSA A23.3.

At Glotman Simpson, Ehsan has been involved in the design of high-rise concrete buildings in BC, Washington, and California. His design experience includes Performance-based Seismic Design (PBSD), in which the response of the building under earthquake response is checked more explicitly through
nonlinear response history analysis. Ehsan has successfully completed peer review process for more than 20 high-rise buildings in Seatle, Bellevue, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Jose. Ehsan is also interested in the recently introduced Performance-Based Wind Design (PBWD), and has studied its impact on the lateral design of a high-rise building in lower mainland, where wind demands are considerably higher than
seismic demands.
