“GlobalChild: A rights-based approach to child development and wellbeing”

Dr Ziba Vaghri is the Director of the CIHR-Funded GlobalChild Program and a faculty member at the School of Public Health and Social Policy at the University of Victoria.  Ziba has a longstanding interest in Child rights, and child health/development. She is a Global Health Researcher with over 3 decades of experience in different areas of child health and development from paediatric Nurse to paediatric Nutritionist to a child rights researcher and advocate. Her program of research links child development and child rights, two fields that have traditionally stayed disconnected from one another. Ziba, along with a large team consisting of international institutions and scholars of child rights and child health/development, has recently been granted funding by the Canadian Institute for Health Research(CIHR) to develop GlobalChild: a comprehensive child rights monitoring platform that will facilitate the task of implementing as well as reporting on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) for all 196 countries that have ratified the CRC.  Ziba currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Global Reference Group on Accountability to Children: an international network of professionals working under the auspices of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.
