Cameron Robertson
“Archaeological Assessments in Melanesia”
Tuesday, Nov 8th , 7:30

This presentation will discuss some of the methods and challenges of conducting archaeological fieldwork in Melanesia. It will emphasize the importance of local knowledge and extensive community consultations prior to starting the field program. It will also demonstrate how GIS based archaeological potential models can be of great assistance guiding fieldwork and locating cultural heritage sites. Examples will illustrate how these models have been particularly successful in mountainous terrain and dense rainforest.
