Call for volunteers: Forensic Anthropology Day

High School Students Apply Now

The 5th Annual Forensic Anthropology Day will be held on the UVic campus on Saturday June 6, 2015 from 9am-3:30pm

Forensic Anthropology Day is sponsored by both Let's Talk Science and the Department of Anthropology. Local Victoria high school students (grades 10-12) are invited to participate in an all-day mock-forensic case on the UVic Campus to complete both field and lab exercises in crime scene investigation. Suited up in head-to-toe protective gear and guided by police protocols, students will learn how to search and recover forensically significant material, document clandestine graves, perform methods of personal identification, and interpret taphonomy.

This event is FREE and lunch is provided. Space is limited to 32 participants and priority will be given on a first-come-first-serve basis. Please contact lts@uvic.ca to reserve your spot before May 15, 2015.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

The 5th Annual Forensic Anthropology Day will be held on the UVic campus on Saturday June 6, 2015 from 9am-3:30pm. For those of you who could not participate last year, here is another opportunity to get involved with Let's Talk Science and the Department of Anthropology.

We are looking for a total of 10 volunteers (no experience required, although an interest in osteology and/or direct forensic anthropology is an asset) to help run the activities (one of which will be outside); each of them will relate to a mock-case of forensic significance.  There will be four groups of students and details of each activity, including volunteer responsibilities, will follow shortly to those interested.

If you are available on this date, would like to keep receiving information regarding this event, and plan on volunteering your time, please respond to me directly via email (scalce@uvic.ca).  This is a fabulous way to get some volunteer experience for your CV and work on building your community leadership skills.

Thank you,

Stephanie
