ORCASat project leads the way with telescope calibration

The Optical Reference Calibration Satellite (ORCASat), designed and built by researchers and students at the University of Victoria was deployed from the International Space Station into a low-Earth orbit at the end of 2022. Since then, it has led the way in terms of callibrating ground telescopes using an artificial light source in orbit, thereby allowing for increased precision with calibration. Project leader, UVic Professor Justin Albert is excited to be leading work that could have major implications in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics.
