West Coast Wave Initiative Presents Findings at Ucluelet Secondary School

On Tuesday, December 3rd West Coast Wave Initiative senior research engineer, Bryson Robertson, travelled to Ucluelet Secondary school to discuss basic ocean wave and wave energy theory with Grade 11 and 12 Physics and Science students. Given that Ucluelet is sited just 7km from one of the most active wave energy transport locations  along the entire west coast of Vancouver Island (Amphitrite Bank), the students were keen to better understand the wave energy resource along their beaches and why WCWI is paying so much attention to their area.

During each 1 hour class, the basics of waves and wave energy were discussed, questioned and investigated (a link to the presentation is included below). Rewardingly, at the end of each class, the students asked some very insightful and educated questions about the methods of determining wave energy, as well as the pros and cons of deploying wave energy devices off Ucluelet.

WCWI would like to thank the whole team at Ucluelet Secondary School and the District of Ucluelet for making it possible for us to engage with the students and hopefully inspire some of them to explore wave energy further on their own.
