“Japan’s Friendship Ties Program”

Application Deadline:

Objectives:

The purpose of this program is to promote deeper mutual trust and understanding between the people of Japan and Canada as a basis for future friendship and cooperation, and to enhance the global understanding of Japan’s society, history, diverse cultures, politics, and foreign policy.

Twenty-four exemplary students from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver and Okanagan) and the University of Victoria will be selected based on their academic and leadership achievements, as well as on their sense of purpose in participating in this 
visit to Japan.

Program Details:

Proposed dates: February 12- 20, 2016 (9 days)

Possible site visits and activities (subject to change):

  • Universities and research centres
  • Companies and other field sites to learn about best practices in Japan
  • Meetings with government officials, politicians, and business leaders
  • NGOs
  • Cultural events

Included upon admission to program:

  • Round-trip air ticket (economy class)
  • Accommodation
  • Meals
  • Program-related transportation within Japan

Not included:

  • Personal expenses
  • Transport to YVR airport
  • Baggage fees
