TITLE:  Optical Trapping and Nanotechnology: New Opportunities for Nanoscale Sensing

Abstract:  Combining nanotechnology with optical trapping offers new possibilities for developing photonic force probes and nanoscale sensors for probing complex interactions on the nanoscale. In the following presentation I will discuss our recent experimental efforts aimed at extending optical trapping to different types of nanoscale objects and how the incorporation of different spectroscopic techniques can be used to resolve their dynamics. I will focus on the trapping dynamics of high refractive index nanoparticles and nanowires, as well as plasmonic nanoparticles, including gold nanoparticles, rods and hybrid structures.
