COMMUNICATIONS + DESIGN ASSISTANT - 2024/2025 WORK STUDY PROGRAM

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position will assist the UVic Libraries Communications Office in engaging with a diverse range of audiences on a wide range of events and projects that promote our library resources, people, events, and services.

The student will be working on communications projects to engage UVic Libraries’ users through visual content (including graphics for both print and online), including the promotion of monthly commemorative days and events (such as Black History Month or Transgender Day of Visibility), as well as writing stories for the Libraries’ social media channels, library website, and our bi-monthly newsletter, The Ampersand.

The successful candidate should be interested in libraries and creating and conveying compelling visual and written content through videos, infographics, social media posts and photography. Work study hours are within a Monday-Friday work week.

QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent visual, written, digital and oral communications skills; experience creating content for social media, in particular Instagram stories and reels; an ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and multi-task in an organized manner; must work well under tight deadlines. Experience with graphics creating tools such as Canva, and video editing software is preferred.

WORK STUDY WAGE                             

$18.50/hour (including 4% vacation pay)

HOURS AVAILABLE                               

140 hours, from September 2024-April 2025
