UVic writers among finalists for BC Book Prizes

Among the finalists for the Hubert Evans Non-Fiction Prize is Made in British Columbia: Eight Ways of Making Culture by Maria Tippett. This book celebrates B.C. culture by looking at the careers of eight ground-breaking producers in the fields of painting, aboriginal art, architecture, writing, theatre and music. Another nominee is Briony Penn for The Real Thing: The Natural History of Ian McTaggart Cowan based on UVic Libraries’ Ian McTaggart Cowan collections. Briony’s book is also a finalist in the Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Prize to recognize the author of the book that contributes most to the enjoyment and understanding of British Columbia.

Ali Blythe's debut book of poems, Twoism, is nominated for the Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize.

Orca Chief is a beautifully illustrated children’s book in the Northwest Coast Legend series created by Roy Henry Vickers and Robert Budd. It is nominated in two award categories:  the Christie Harris Illustrated Children’s Literature Prize and the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award.

Jordan Stratford, The Case of the Missing Moonstone (The Wollstonecraft Detective Agency, Book 1) is a finalist for the Sheila A. Egoff Children’s Literature Prize awarded to the best non-illustrated book written for children.

Gwen Curry, Tod Inlet: A Healing Place is a finalist for the Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Prize to recognize the author of the book that contributes most to the enjoyment and understanding of British Columbia.

The winners will be announced at the 32nd Annual Lieutenant Governor’s BC Book Prizes Gala on Saturday, April 30 at Government House in Victoria. The Honourable Judith Guichon, OBC, will be in attendance. For more information about the prizes, go to www.bcbookprizes.ca.
