UVic Law’s undergraduate professional programs include the Juris Doctor (JD) and the world’s first joint degree in Canadian Common Law and Indigenous Legal Orders (JD/JID). 

As members of the Student Services team, the Administrative Assistant, Academic Services, supports the Faculty of Law’s academic operations and its commitment to student success and service excellence. The Assistant provides front line support to students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Experience:

These positions require a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to three (3) years of administrative and customer service in a comparable environment, preferably in a post-secondary setting. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment.
  • Experience with classroom and learning technology, audio visual and video conferencing technology support.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and tailor communication style for different audiences.
  • Experience in maintaining confidential and sensitive information.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time and tasks with attention to detail. 
  • Ability to problem solve by using judgement, independent thinking and/or analysis.
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures.
  • Experience composing various business communications such as emails, memos, and reports.
  • Ability to learn, set-up, teach, troubleshoot and problem-solve classroom and learning technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide excellent service.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel (including mail merges), Outlook Calendar, and listservs.
  • Experience with using learning and data management systems.
  • Experience with technical writing is an asset.
  • Familiarity with UVic programs, policies, procedures, and business systems considered an asset.
