A public lecture hosted by the Department of Greek and Roman Studies at the UVic will be presented by:

Professor David Schenker will present a lecture entitled, “Who Owns the Classics? Greek Drama in a Post-Colonial World.”

Versions and adaptations of Greek tragedy continue to flourish in Africa and the African diaspora. This seminar addresses some of the questions associated with this phenomenon, with examples drawn from two plays: Tegonni, An African Antigone by Femi Osofisan and The Darker Face of the Earth by Rita Dove.”
