Welcome Dr. Bhandar
The students, staff, sessional instructors, and faculty in Gender Studies are very excited to welcome Dr. Davina Bhandar (PhD Political Studies, York University, 2001) to the department as a research faculty who will initially serve in the role of Chair for a five year term.
Dr. Bhandar comes to us with administrative experience as Co-Director of the Centre for Policy Studies on Culture and Communities at Simon Fraser University, previously an Associate faculty member at Trent University, and twenty plus years of scholarly and community organizing across several provinces. Joining us as an Associate Professor from the Political Sciences Program of the Centre for Social Sciences at Athabasca University with Adjunct Professor status in the Communications department at Simon Fraser University, Dr. Bhandar’s areas of research speciality include contemporary political theory, feminist theory, citizenship studies, migration and border studies, critical race studies, and South Asian Diasporic Studies. Her inaugural course offering in Gender Studies will be “GNDR 480 Topics: Abolition Is A Feminist Issue” in WINTER 2025.
