It’s rare to find, in one location, dozens of experts with insights on the issues and challenges facing Canadian municipal leaders. That’s what you’ll find in the book “The Role of Canadian City Managers: In Their Own Words. The book explores issues from managing crises to building effective relationships with mayors and councils, community organizations and other levels of government. Various authors explain the role of the CAO – the “profession” itself, what it takes to become a successful CAO, and how to encourage others to take-up the challenges of municipal managerial leadership and place-making. The authors and editors reflect on effective ways to navigate the social media-stoked political arena and the unique role of city managers in shaping local government to address the complex challenges of today’s world.

We are excited to have one of the co-editors, Michael Fenn, himself a previous city manager in Ontario, along with Linda Adams, former CAO with the Islands Trust, bring these learnings to life at an upcoming event sponsored by UVIC and IPAC Victoria.
