Small Climate Actions Can Have a Big Impact

Currently pursuing his PhD in Civil Engineering, Jay Viradiya and his research team are looking at how small climate actions can have a big impact—like green engineering cementless concrete made with by-products from the coal industry.

"My journey at UVic started when I came across a project focusing on developing innovative sustainable construction material. My research mainly involves the feasibility of green-engineered surface-treated fibers (GESTF) in concrete. It utilizes the by-product/waste from the coal industry and makes concrete stronger and more durable at the same time. I got a chance to learn some great skills from my team and industry partners at FIMIM— it wouldn't be possible without the support of Dr Rishi Gupta and the amazing opportunities he's provided me."
