UVic artisans market brings together community to support the United Way
UVic is a strong supporter of the United Way South Vancouver Island (UWSVI), raising over $5.5 million in annual workplace campaigns since 1994. This year’s campaign supports four main areas: families, seniors, mental health and addictions, and equity, diversity, and inclusion.
The campaign committee, comprised of several UVic staff and faculty, has organized many events (and more to come!) to raise awareness and funds for the United Way. One such successful event was the revival of the UVic Artisans Market, which took place in November 2022. The market has not been run for the past several years, mainly due to the pandemic. Yet this return made the market the largest in its history with over 35 local and student artisans. In addition, each artisan donated one item to the market’s raffle baskets, which two lucky community members got to take home.
Not only did this market celebrate the local talent in our community, but the event also raised over $1,800 for the United Way, making it a successful event. The campaign committee hopes to see the market become an annual event for the UVic United Way campaign.
UVic’s campaign is still running throughout the spring with more upcoming events and initiatives. The overall goal is to raise $230,000 for the UWSVI and we are over halfway there! Visit the UVic United Way Campaign website for updates and upcoming event details.
