5 Days of Action

October 27 - 31, 2025

5 Days of Action is a free, week-long event aimed at amplifying the work groups, units and organizations are doing to create a more diverse, inclusive and equitable campus and community throughout the year. Each day of the week represents a different call to action. Monday asks us to listen, Tuesday-reflect, Wednesday-dialogue, Thursday-engage, and Friday-take action. There will be many opportunities to reflect on what we can do as individuals and as part of a team to improve the sense of inclusion and belonging in our greater community.

During the event, we encourage you to take part by: visiting one of our artistic events; attending a workshop or seminar; or stopping by our 5 Days of Action Hub in front of Petch Fountain.

Any UVic community member can host or facilitate an event over the course of the week, or anytime throughout the year. No matter how we engage, 5 Days of Action: 365 Days of Commitment is an opportunity for our community to highlight our shared commitment to end discrimination, harassment, and sexualized violence.

If you have an event or program that you want to be spotlighted during the week, or you want to discuss ways to get involved, please contact us at daysofaction@uvic.ca.

Accessibility statement

We strive to have accessible events and activities that enable everyone to engage fully. Some of the strategies we’ve adopted in our approach this year include:

  • having a variety of events so that participants can choose the best options for them (e.g., run some in-person and some virtual sessions, run events at different times each day)
  • working with workshop facilitators and event organizers to ensure accessibility is considered from ideation to its final presentation. This includes:
    • asking applicants to share their event accessibility considerations as part of the criteria to be accepted to join 5 Days of Action
    • having accessibility specialists join planning committees for consult
    • providing resources on best practices in creating accessible events
    • requesting accessibility information to be part of event descriptions
      • E.g. physical space considerations, nearest washroom, whether slides will be described or shared in advance, captioning/transcription service, etc.
  • building an access-centred culture that is proactive yet responsive where participants feel:
    • informed about general accessibility information
    • free to ask for specific accommodations

We also recognize that access is a collaborative practice. If you have questions or suggestions on how we can better support your participation, please email each event’s contact directly or send them to daysofaction@uvic.ca.
